Communication, Sharing Experiences, News: District Archaeologist Thomas

On the last Thursday of every month, Kassens makes himself available to volunteer metal detectorists for an informal get-together.

Treasure hunting was already a topic of interest in the early Middle Ages. The so-called “treasure regality” dates back to this period; it stipulates that all finds discovered deeper than a plowshare (approx. 30 cm) belong to the king (today, the Federal Republic of Germany). Held in a relaxed atmosphere, these meetings provide an opportunity for questions, discussion, and expert dialogue. Anyone else interested in archaeology is also welcome to learn more about archaeology and searching with metal detectors.
