The town museum and the Meppen local history association cordially invite you to a cozy literary evening with old and new local history poems in the Biedermeier room in the Arenbergische Rentei. In the impressive historical ambience of a Meppen bourgeois parlor from around 1900, the guests first fortify themselves with chicory coffee and buckwheat cookies while the well-read master of the house gets them in the mood for the evening with music typical of the period. Afterwards, local poems and songs by local poets such as Bernhard Uphus, Josef Hugenberg, Maria Mönch-Tegeder and Christa Brinkers will be read and performed, recalling the heyday of Emsland local poetry. But we also hear modern poetry by young Emsland poets who describe contemporary themes and motifs. Those who wish may also perform their own verses.

The event takes place as part of the literature festival “Wieder WORTE” and in cooperation with the Emsländische Landschaft. Ticket sales and an evening box office will be set up.
