Through her songwriting, Amsterdam-based artist Sterre Weldring seeks to untangle the complex emotions that many of us encounter. She channels her wonder at human behavior and the conflict between the head and the heart—which is so often present—into melancholic folk-pop songs. Inspired by artists such as Florence + The Machine, Tom Odell, and Ben Howard, Sterre’s music is best described as introspective: it expresses emotions as intensely as they can be felt internally, yet analyzes experiences in a philosophical way—which is not surprising, given that she studied philosophy. Over the years, Sterre has performed at venues such as Paradiso in Amsterdam and Sofar Sounds in London; she was selected for the Popronde (a festival in the Netherlands for emerging talent), during which she toured the country, and has performed on many radio stations, including Radio 1 & 2, two of the largest stations in the Netherlands.
