The Emsland Arhäologie Museum is breaking new ground this summer: for the first time, there will be a music festival on the museum grounds; a special kind of festival, because it will be a musical journey through time. The music group Nimmersêlich from Leipzig will kick off the musical weekend on Friday, July 4 from 7 p.m. with a concert in the museum’s atrium. With their music, the Nimmersêlich ensemble goes in search of the “lost sound”. Using replicas of historical instruments and vocals, the five musicians perform sacred and secular pieces from the 11th to 13th centuries and awaken works by composers of that long-gone era from a centuries-long slumber. On Saturday, July 5, the ensemble will then perform on one of the three stages in the garden of the archaeology museum and prove that medieval music can also be rousing and lively. On all three stages, a wide variety of bands will perform at different times from 5 p.m. on July 5, such as the band Törtf from the Netherlands or the Comes Vagantes, the Speellüe will march across the grounds drumming loudly, bronze lure blowers will make an appearance, there will be historical sea shanties, Irish folk, oldies from the 60s and much more. Almost mystical Gregorian chants by candlelight conclude the evening in the museum. On Sunday, July 6, after a lively morning pint from 11 a.m., catchy coffee house music will conclude the program in the afternoon. Location: Emsland Archaeology Museum
