By popular demand, District Archaeologist Thomas Kassens offers an informal meeting for metal detectorists on the last Thursday of each month. Treasure hunting was already a topic in the early Middle Ages. From this time comes the so-called “Schatzregal”, which states that all finds deeper than a plowshare (about 30 cm) belong to the king, today the Federal Republic of Germany. In a relaxed atmosphere, the meetings offer the opportunity to exchange experiences, talk shop and enjoy a pleasant get-together. But also all other people interested in archaeology are cordially invited to learn more about archaeology and searching with metal probes or to have their own find determined by an expert.
