In 2021, a team of five certified explorers discovered 96 Roman silver coins from the 1. and The site was already known in 1850, but was forgotten. Through meticulous research, the exact location was located and scientifically documented.
After the professional restoration, the detective work began: the volunteers helped to determine the origin and minting years of the coins. The finds are on display as part of the special exhibition on loan from the Ostfriesische Landschaft in the Emsland Archaeology Museum.
In Emsland, too, certified explorers work closely with the district archaeologist. From a selection of flint artefacts to medieval jewelry and silver coins from Clemenswerth, the exhibition provides an insight into the treasures hidden in our soils – and how important dedicated citizen research is for science.
