Is there a Low German canon? And if so, why do we need one?
Questions about Low German literature from the 19th century to the present day
German literature is packed with outstanding works and authors such as Goethe, Schiller, Kafka, Mann and Grass. Everyone is probably familiar with texts by authors from the German-language canon. But what about Low German literature? Who comes to mind spontaneously? And what meaning and function does a canon actually have? Doreen Brandt explores these questions in an exciting lecture and invites the audience to join in the discussion afterwards. Doreen Brandt is a junior professor of Low German literature from a historical and cultural studies perspective. Together with Prof. Dr. Jörg Peters, she heads the “Low German and Sater Frisian” department at the Institute of German Studies at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg
