With a new program, the Festival of Lights at the Koppelschleuse offers a special aesthetic experience for the twelfth time. The Meppener Kunstkreis is showing light art and projections by Anne Nissen and Steffen König (Hanover) at the Koppelschleuse art center for the Festival of Lights. Students and lecturers from the art school will design the area of the path through the park at the Koppelschleuse with light objects and works of light art. While the Fabian-Haupt-Duo from Düsseldorf plays in the beer garden of the Jugend- und Kulturgästehaus, music with projected illustrations will be performed in the sculptor’s remise at the Linebug art center. At 10 p.m., the spectacular fire magic of the Lavawusch circus can be marveled at on the meadow in the park. A hot mixture of expressive choreography and melodious music creates a game with fire. With burning fans, sticks, ropes, pois and torches, the spectators are cast under the spell of fire. Meanwhile, you can meet illuminated characters from the children’s book Alice in Wonderland in the park. In a mixture of theater and circus with illuminated props, the actors move on the floor and on stilts. The highlight of the 2024 Festival of Lights will be the design of the area at the Koppelschleuse lock by the LaTanza agency from Bremen, which has made a name for itself with its lighting design at the WALLfest Bremen, the Mystic Nights Bad Zwischenahn and the Free Night of Masks. The Latanza agency focuses intensively on the nature of the terrain. The agency’s lighting designers will illuminate the youth and cultural guest house as well as the art center, the park and sculptures by the art students. Catering is provided by the inclusive café at the Koppelschleuse and the youth hostel’s beer garden.
