Charlotte Wielage’s works reinterpret the classical glazing technique by using everyday materials such as adhesive tape and ink. Through layering, transparent spaces of color emerge that are reminiscent of stained-glass windows and, in interaction with light, create luminous surfaces and a sense of spatial depth. The works navigate the space between illusion and reality, making color an immediate, spatial experience.

Within the space, the works unfold their effect through a systematic interplay of layering, repetition, and variation. The structures set on glass react to light and their surroundings and extend into the space, where they create colored shadows and overlays. Space thus does not appear as a fixed reality, but rather as something that is continuously recreated by light.

In this interplay between system, space, and perception, light becomes the connecting medium. It structures the arrangement, activates the surface, and alters visibility at the very moment of observation. Photons mark the point at which light, space, and perception interlock, giving rise to visibility in the first place.

Supported by the Emsland Regional Association

Hours: Tue., Thu., and Sat., 2:30–5:00 p.m.; Sun., 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Place: Koppelschleuse Art Center

Admission: free

Photons are the smallest units of light and, at the same time, the starting point for these works, in which visibility is understood as a dynamic process.
