The H\u00f6lting Mill on the headland between the Dortmund-Ems Canal and the River Hase is a so-called Dutch windmill with a wind rose and sails that was built in the 17th century and originally stood as a “Kranenkampm\u00fchle” in Bockhorn in the district of Friesland, where it was in operation until well into the 20th century. In 1959\/60, the Meppen H\u00f6lting Citizens’ Association bought the mill from the Bockhorn miller and rebuilt it at its current location. For centuries, windmills also supplied energy for a wide variety of commercial purposes in Meppen, most famously for grinding grain. As part of the children’s activity, we get to know the H\u00f6lting mill and how it works, grind our own flour with a hand mill, bake bread and experience exciting, funny and also scary stories about mills and millers. <\/p>\n
