Iron metallurgy from the Roman imperial period in L\u00fcneburg-Hagen<\/em><\/p>\n

City archaeologist Tobias Schoo reports on the latest findings of a commercial settlement in L\u00fcneburg from the Roman imperial period. The site was continuously inhabited from the Late Bronze Age until the Migration Period. The phase after the birth of Christ is particularly striking. There is an extraordinary amount of evidence of metalworking for this period. More than 100 racing furnaces and numerous bake-out hearths are evidence of intensive iron smelting. Pottery fragments and textile processing equipment also testify to the use of the site as a workshop. One special find is a Roman silver coin from the early 2nd century. The L\u00fcneburg-Hagen settlement is one of the largest industrial settlements of its time in Lower Saxony. <\/p>\n
