SUMMARY:Special exhibition - Propaganda and enlightenment. The work of Emsland GmbH as reflected in its public relations work
DESCRIPTION:The Meppen Town Museum is taking part in the “75 Years of the Emsland Plan” theme and anniversary year with a multifaceted exhibition. The subject is the work of “Emsland GmbH” as reflected in its PR and public relations work\, which opens up a new perspective and a fresh look at the subject of the “Emsland Plan”. Using spectacular objects and stagings\, not only the PR work itself\, but also the development of communication\, advertising and (mass) media in the second half of the 20th century will be traced using local examples. Shortly after the GmbH was founded in March 1951\, it became clear how much importance the company attached to press and public relations work. “There is no question\,” wrote the first managing director\, Johann Dietrich Lauenstein\, on March 19\, 1951\, “that propaganda and education are important tools for achieving a set goal.” The management knew that an “image” had to be created for the company and its activities – ultimately also for Emsland itself: the implementation of the Emsland Plan\, the GmbH and the region were to be developed as “brands”. The show will open on December 12\, 2025 in the city museum at the Koppelschleuse. The exhibition will be accompanied by an educational program and a series of events including lectures\, film screenings and excursions at the Stadtmuseum. A conference is planned for spring 2026. \nPlace: City Museum Meppen \nAdmission: adults 4 €\, families 7 €\, children (6 – 16 years) 2 €

SUMMARY:Annual exhibition of the art school Children are inventors
DESCRIPTION:April 10 – June 7 \nAnnual exhibition of the art school. Children are inventors. \nThe title “Children are inventors” is more than just a motto – it is an invitation to discover and help shape the world with open eyes\, a curious mind and creative hands. Children have a unique ability to see the everyday with different eyes\, to question the familiar and invent new things. They experiment\, combine\, reject and start all over again – this creative process is of inestimable value: aesthetic education. Aesthetic education is much more than learning artistic techniques. It means experiencing the world through the senses\, discovering forms of expression and sharpening one’s own perception. It promotes imagination\, empathy\, critical thinking and self-confidence – skills that extend far beyond the artistic sphere and are indispensable for a vibrant\, democratic society. \nWith this program\, the Koppelschleuse art school offers a space in which this potential can grow. Here\, children can explore\, design and give free rein to their creativity – accompanied by experienced instructors who encourage them to ask questions and go their own way. \nAt the end of the “Children are inventors” program\, the results will be presented to the general public at the Koppelschleuse 2025 art center. Individual and joint works by the art students on the theme of “Art – Traces – Search” will be on display in the exhibition. \n  \nSupported by the Emsländische Landschaft \n  \nPlace: Koppelschleuse Art Center \nAdmission: free \nOpening hours: Tue. + Thu. 2 – 5 p.m.\nSat. 2 – 5 p.m.\nSun. 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

SUMMARY:Reading: "New land for Peter Quast". A staged audio reading of the Emsland youth novel with Stephan W. Müller\, Nora Kühnlein and Simone Nowicki
DESCRIPTION:Reading: “New land for Peter Quast”. A staged audio reading of the Emsland youth novel with Stephan W. Müller\, Nora Kühnlein and Simone Nowicki \nPeter is nine years old in the winter of 1944/45 when he has to leave his home farm in Dirschau (now Tczew) with his mother and sister Maria. The new Emsland “lures” the refugees from the East with work and land. The school and youth book written by non-fiction author Günter Brinkmann in 1959 deals with the fate of an East German refugee family\, which was widespread at the time. The loss of their homeland\, the arrival in a new environment\, the family’s initial existential hardships and the new start in the moorland settlement describe a path in life that many “new Emslanders” took at the time. The non-fiction book is based on two real-life stories of a family of farmhands and a refugee family from Hesepertwist. Under the working title “Peter and the Emsland”\, Brinkmann submitted it to Emsland GmbH for review. It has been used as an educational aid in school lessons and school radio since 1959. Nora Kühnlein and Meppen-born Stephan W. Müller read and perform excerpts from the novel\, lending the text a special liveliness. The two actors live in Frankfurt am Main and have often performed together on stage – including as permanent ensemble members at the Zimmertheater Rottweil\, at the Heppenheim Festival and currently at the Kammerspiele Wiesbaden. \nThe staged reading will be acoustically accompanied by “foley artist” and sound designer Nils Herrmann\, who has already worked as a foley artist for several film and television productions\, including Sketch History (ZDF). In the staged reading\, the sounds will be created live\, right in front of the audience’s eyes and ears. \n  \nThe reading is a world premiere. \nPlace: City Museum Meppen \nTime: 7 pm \nAdmission: 13 € \nRegistration: call 05931 153 278 or send an e-mail to \ninfo@stadtmuseum-meppen.de \n  \n
