Hans Ohlms was one of the most influential artists in the region in the 1960s. He created landscape paintings, portraits, commercial graphics and caricatures, as well as sculptural works and public art. In Meppen, he designed the windows of the Gustav Adolf Church, among other things. From the end of the 1930s onwards, he created around a thousand works in his studio in Nordhorn while working as a teacher and later during his retirement. Beyond all stylistic classifications, Ohlms explored hidden worlds of images, which he linked to his dreams and experiences and thus also made the fragility of the modern industrial world visible. The work of Hans Ohlms is the subject of a special performance and cultural presentation at the Stadtmuseum. At the same time, it is about inspiration for one’s own imagination and a “ride” through cultural history from Romanticism to the modernity of the 1960s. The event is a production of the non-profit Hans Ohlms Foundation and the Otto Pankok Museum in Bad Bentheim.
