As part of the exhibition project “ParkLicht. Lichtkunst an der Koppelschleuse”, curated by Dirk Raulf, six light installations by artists from all over Germany will be shown at the Koppelschleuse from September 29 to October 29: A man in a gray suit carries a street lamp on his shoulder, in his hand he carries a suitcase including a solar battery. At the moment of sunset, the man puts the plug of the streetlight into the case. The lantern lights up. He goes off. When the load becomes too heavy, the man stops, straightens the streetlight and lingers a bit. He stands in the thicket, illuminates the locks, lingers by the river.
The light of the street lamp makes the obvious visible, illuminates some unseen things and puts others in its shadow. The man with the street lamp moves through the night as a wanderer. Visitors literally perceive the site in a new light through the changing cone of light. By their very existence, the visitors become part of the unseen images.
During the walks, the man with the lantern may be photographed. Photos shared on social media can be tagged with #shoulderedstreetlight. The walk across the site of the Koppelschleuse thus becomes part of the overall project that has been carried out since 2009.
