Experience history live at the “mercatum nostalgica”, the historical market around the Emsland Archaeology Museum at the Koppelschleuse.
Craftsmen and traders from near and far come to the historic market in the museum garden between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to sell unusual goods and demonstrate old craft techniques. The offer ranges from Roman wood and bone work, spinning, weaving and dyeing in the Middle Ages, blacksmithing, glass bead making, handmade buttons, homemade marzipan and fishing from the 18th century, ceramics, beekeeping, leather and horn work to comparatively “modern” jams and liqueurs. All stall holders appear in historically inspired clothing and thus provide a colorful picture of the so different, diverse fashion over the centuries. Younger visitors can try out historical games, write with pen and ink in the writing room or ride a hand-operated carousel with the Emspiraten section of the Lingener Kivelinge. The band “Comes Vagantes” will provide great live music, “The Arc Of Irish Dance” from Haren will be there with lively dancing and there will be a fascinating fire show shortly before the end of the market. Guests can enjoy refreshments in the beer garden at the youth hostel and in the Koppelschleuse café.
