Video installation, ink drawing, collage

The properties of water, the natural flow behavior of ink dissolved in water and the associated traces and forms form the basis of Anne Nissen’s paper and video works. Drawing ink dissolved in water, driven by air movement or following the force of gravity in the water, becomes visible as traces of movement and spreads out on the paper or as a video projection in the exhibition space. Behavior in accordance with the laws of nature, be it in organisms, in the plant world in micro- and macrocosmic processes or in life cycles, in which movement, energy and growth determine the process of shaping.

In the first room of the exhibition, visitors are immersed in the video installation “Fluid”. Drawing ink spreads fluidly across walls, ceilings and semi-transparent projection surfaces. Individual drops form into filigree shapes and even painterly surfaces that seem to float three-dimensionally in space. Visitors move in the middle of the projection and become part of the immersive video installation.

The works on paper in the following rooms are closely related to the video installation. Here too, flowing ink creates filigree or dynamic forms that become visible on laid paper, both as two-dimensional ink drawings and in the form of three-dimensional collages. Torn and reassembled handmade paper in several layers allows a view of different levels in the collages and shows excerpts of hidden ink drawings.
