Yvonne Zoberbier’s sculptures are astonishing in their unusual processing of felt into human figures and heads, which have an aesthetic appeal all of their own. Her sculptures, consistently left in white natural wool, create a reference to the works of antiquity that have come down to us, without copying them. Rather, each work develops a life of its own, which varies depending on the angle of view, the incidence of light and the state of the viewer and captures the moment. Resting in themselves, they seem to be completely at one with themselves. Yvonne Zoberbier’s concentration on female bodies, mostly as torsos and heads with rather masculine facial features, challenge the viewer to take a closer look. The artist herself describes her creative process as deeply feminine, but this does not exclude the masculine level. Memories of people who have enriched the artist’s life are combined with a reflection on her very own roots and strengths. Rediscovering the human being in sculpture in an increasingly automated and computerized world is a fundamental need for the artist. The delicacy and fragility of the human face are further characteristics of the sculptures. The fine lines that nestle around the mouth and eyes are striking. Here, age is celebrated in a very special way, revealing an inner beauty that grows with the years. In contrast, the perfectly youthful torsos radiate a beauty removed from time, which can be understood as a reference to the past and present.
